Beyond the Veil: A Solo Show by Richelle Cripe

Opening August 1
Artist Richelle Cripe invites viewers into a world where myth, memory, and landscape intertwine in Beyond the Veil, a solo exhibition of new paintings inspired by Irish folklore, megalithic monuments, and the ancient, liminal spaces of the land itself.

Rooted in a 2024 artist residency in Ireland and informed by deep research into Celtic mythology, Cripe’s work evokes “thin places," mystical locations where the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is said to grow thin. Her paintings explore enchanted forests, river crossings, peat bogs, stone circles, and other sacred sites imbued with presence and mystery.

Balancing reverence and imagination, Cripe’s landscapes conjure the Otherworld—not as fantasy, but as felt experience. Each piece offers a portal, inviting viewers to step sideways into a space both ancient and timeless.

Beyond the Veil opens August 1st and runs through August 22 at Crowd Collective in North Boulder, with an opening reception during First Friday on August 1 from 6-9pm.

About the Artist:

Boulder-based artist Richelle Cripe creates paintings that merge philosophical inquiry with personal exploration. Working with a deliberately limited palette, she investigates the emotional and perceptual impact of color, using abstraction as a means to access the subconscious and invite shifts in perspective. Through the use of repeating motifs, she weaves visual threads that accumulate meaning across a series, allowing each body of work to unfold as a layered narrative. Her practice is grounded in the belief that painting is both an intuitive exploration and a gateway to transformation. Cripe holds dual BAs in Art History and Fine & Studio Arts, and pursued doctoral studies in the interdisciplinary ATLAS program at the University of Colorado.
