Lina “Pin” Janas

Lina Pin Janas paints the moment of death, the dissolution of self. She does this by transforming the deceased’s memories into a representational entity or landscape, which symbolizes co-occurring lived moments. In engaging the taboo of death, Lina has created an evolving mythology of characters and a matrix of symbolic color: reds as liberating, greens as good intent, blues as suppression, and yellows as catalysts. In her work, Lina aims to recontextualize and redefine the symbolic and ideological expression of death and dying in contemporary art discourse. Lina holds a master's in Management and Systems with a concentration in Database Technologies with distinction from New York University, a baccalaureate degree in History of Art from University of California, Berkeley, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Visual Arts from UC Berkeley Extension with distinction.
